Why We Built a Rent Structure That Supports Recovery — and Then Froze It

Why We Built a Rent Structure That Supports Recovery — and Then Froze It

Recovery isn’t a straight line — and neither is rebuilding your life. That’s something we’ve seen again and again at Remember Wellness. People arrive at our doors carrying not only the weight of addiction, but the burden of financial hardship, housing insecurity, and the pressure to “hurry up and get better.”

But what if we slowed that process down? What if we made room for stability to take root?

A New Way of Thinking About Recovery Housing

When we built Remember Wellness Recovery Homes, we knew we wanted to create more than just a safe place to sleep. We wanted to create a supportive co-living environment rooted in dignity, mindfulness, and growth.

That vision extended all the way to our rent structure. Here’s how it works:

One-time $100 bed fee at move-in

$100 per week for the first 3 months

$125 per week for months 3–6

$150 per week for months 6–9

$175 per week for months 9–12

$200 per week for months 12–15

$225 per week for months 15–18

$250 per week cap after 18 months

This gradual increase in rent gives our residents the chance to stabilize, find employment, and begin saving money — without the financial pressure that can often derail early recovery.

We don’t see this home as a stopover. We see it as a place to plant roots.

Introducing the Rent Freeze Program

But we didn’t stop there.

Over time, we realized something powerful: some residents weren’t ready to move on after six or nine months — and not because they were stuck, but because they were growing. Deeply. Intentionally.

So we created something new: the Rent Freeze Program.

This program invites residents who’ve been with us for 6 to 9 months to apply for a six-month rent freeze, locking in their rate at $150 per week. It’s not about financial relief alone — it’s about honoring the need for continued stability. About asking the deeper question:

“Do I feel ready to move on — or would another six months of support help me become even more grounded in my recovery?”

We believe that when someone chooses to stay, engage, and do the work — they deserve our support in return.

Why This Matters

Traditional models of recovery housing often prioritize quick transitions and limited stays. But rushing to the next step can overlook the most important part of the journey: the one you’re in right now.

We believe that staying longer is not failure — it’s wisdom.

Our rent structure and Rent Freeze Program reflect our commitment to:

  • Creating accessible housing
  • Supporting long-term recovery
  • Fostering deep emotional healing
  • Empowering residents with financial tools and life skills

We’re not just helping people get through — we’re helping people get rooted.
